Josh Hart, a veteran NBA guard celebrated for his defensive intensity and versatile scoring, has added a new dimension to his public life by stepping into the role of ambassador for Scouting America, the national organization that has guided young people for more than a century.
Hart’s connection to Scouting began in Maryland, where he joined Troop 1083 and pursued the Eagle Scout rank at the age of 18, a milestone that required mastery of merit badges and the completion of a substantial service project.
From Troop 1083 to the NBA
His Eagle Scout project involved renovating a local church’s picnic area and back building, a task that demanded meticulous planning, coordination with volunteers, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
Through that experience Hart internalized lessons of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, learning how to balance tight schedules between practice, academics, and family responsibilities.
The values he gained — punctuality, collaboration, and a willingness to sacrifice personal comfort for a greater good — now shape his approach as a father, husband, and professional athlete.
Scouting America’s CEO Roger Krone praised Hart’s dedication, noting that “few athletes have demonstrated the same level of commitment to earning Eagle Scout while excelling at the highest level of basketball.”
Krone added that Hart’s story illustrates how Scouting provides a foundation for future pursuits, equipping youth with the character and skills needed to navigate both personal and professional challenges.
