A New Chapter for Green River Basketball
Josh Lewis, who has served as the boys’ basketball assistant coach at Green River High School since 2018, has been named the new head coach, succeeding Laurie Ivie after her 11‑year tenure. The appointment was announced by the Sweetwater County School District #2, which highlighted Lewis’s deep roots in the program and his proven leadership on the court.
Lewis brings a strong playing pedigree to the role, having earned two‑time varsity MVP honors and twice been selected to the All‑Conference and All‑State teams. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Science from Utah State University, credentials that reflect both his academic rigor and his commitment to developing student‑athletes.
Tony Beardsley, the district’s Athletic Director, said he is excited to see Lewis step into the top position, noting that the former assistant has already demonstrated an ability to mentor players and shape strategy. “Josh’s basketball IQ and his connection to the community make him the ideal leader to continue building on the program’s tradition of excellence,” Beardsley remarked.
Laurie Ivie’s departure after eleven seasons marks the end of an era that saw the team achieve numerous milestones, including multiple conference titles and deep playoff runs. As the new head coach prepares to take the helm, the district looks forward to a seamless transition and a continued emphasis on competitive, character‑driven basketball at Green River High School.
