Pate predicts Notre Dame would dispatch both Indiana and Texas, the latter awaiting in the championship game, thereby completing a path that many see as both manageable and compelling.
Roster Strengths and Defensive Prowess
The forecast leans heavily on the return of star quarterback CJ Carr, who amassed 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns in the previous season, alongside top receiver Jordan Faison. Defensive stalwarts Leonard Moore and Tae Johnson are also set to return, bolstering a unit that has limited opponents to under 18 points per game over the past three years.
Preseason rankings place the Irish at No. 5 in the coaches' poll, reflecting a belief that the schedule, while challenging, does not preclude a deep run. The projection also notes the broader context of at‑large bids awarded to Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Indiana, Oregon and USC, as well as automatic spots for BYU in the Big 12 and Boise State in the Group of Five.
