Josh Reynolds Appointed Director of Pitching Performance at Virginia Tech

The former Tennessee coach brings a wealth of experience and analytics insight to the Hokies program

Virginia Tech has named Josh Reynolds as its new director of pitching performance and baseball analytics, a move that brings a seasoned strategist to the Hokies program.

A Journey Defined by Pitching Excellence

Reynolds arrives after two seasons as pitching coach at the University of Tennessee, where he helped shape a staff that earned national recognition.

Prior to Tennessee, he served as pitching coach at Cincinnati and as scouting director for Prep Baseball Report in Colorado, blending player evaluation with data‑driven development.

His playing career began at Central Missouri, where he set a school record with 34 career wins and contributed to Division II College World Series appearances in 1998 and 2000.

Selected in the third round of the 2000 MLB Draft by the New York Mets, Reynolds also spent time in the farm systems of the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres before transitioning to coaching.

Coach John Szefc praised Reynolds’ expertise, stating the hire strengthens the program’s analytical foundation and welcomes his family to Blacksburg.

Reynolds’ extensive résumé includes stints at Northwestern, Kansas State, Evansville, and Northeast Texas Community College, where he oversaw pitching staffs, recruiting coordination, and volunteer roles.

Beyond the field, Reynolds balances his professional commitments with family life, a factor that resonated with the Hokies’ coaching staff.
