A Strategic Hire for the Hokies
Virginia Tech has named Josh Reynolds its new director of pitching performance and baseball analytics, tapping a coach whose career spans multiple conferences and professional experiences.
Reynolds arrives after a brief tenure as pitching coach at the University of Tennessee, where he was promoted to the role in November 2023 before parting ways with head coach Josh Elander after just one season.
Prior to Tennessee, he served as an assistant at Northwestern, a pitching coach at Kansas State, and an assistant at Evansville, while also guiding the pitching staff at Central Missouri. His playing days included stints in the farm systems of the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres.
Before college coaching, Reynolds spent two years as Prep Baseball Report’s scouting director in Colorado, where he helped shape the next generation of talent.
What This Means for Virginia Tech
Coach John Szefc praised Reynolds’ expertise and said the program is excited to welcome him and his family to Blacksburg, marking a significant addition to the Hokies’ baseball staff.
The move underscores the university’s commitment to blending analytics with traditional coaching methods, a strategy that could elevate the program’s competitiveness in the ACC.
