The South Carolina Stingrays announced this week that veteran forward Josh Wilkins has agreed to a new contract, securing his services for the 2026‑27 campaign. The deal marks the fifth time Wilkins has returned to the franchise, underscoring a unique relationship that has defined much of his professional journey.
A Proven Scorer Returns
During the 2025‑26 season Wilkins posted 45 points, comprising 21 goals and 24 assists across 52 games, helping the club clinch a spot in the Kelly Cup playoffs and reach the South Division Finals. His 21 goals placed him second on the team, just one shy of his personal best set the previous year.
Career Milestones
Over four seasons with the Stingrays, Wilkins has twice led the team in scoring, notably posting a career‑high 62 points in his debut year (21 goals, 41 assists) during 2022‑23. In total he has recorded 202 points in 210 appearances, ranking ninth in franchise history for goals and twelfth for overall points.
Early Career Abroad and in the AHL
Prior to his tenure in South Carolina, Wilkins honed his game abroad in Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan with Vasterviks IK and HC Vita Hasten, where he contributed 20 points, and later added depth to his résumé with stints in the AHL and ECHL, including 15 points with the Milwaukee Admirals and five points with the Tucson Roadrunners.
Looking Forward
Coaches and teammates alike expect Wilkins’ leadership and offensive instincts to be pivotal as the Stingrays aim to build on recent playoff momentum. His return also provides continuity for a roster that values experience alongside emerging talent.
