Joshua Reeves has been appointed as the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of West Florida men's basketball team, a role that will see him oversee day‑to‑day operations, coaching responsibilities, team travel, scheduling, practice preparation and recruiting logistics.
Coach Tanner Smith, who announced the appointment, described Reeves as a relentless worker who brings a wealth of experience, energy and passion to the program and its student‑athletes.
A Familiar Path Back to Florida
Reeves previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach and head developmental coach at Ferrum College in Virginia before returning to the Southeast to take on the new position at UWF.
His playing career at Ferrum College spanned the 2020‑2022 seasons, after which he transitioned into coaching, eventually joining the staff at George Wythe High School in Wytheville, Virginia.
Success at George Wythe High School
During his first year at George Wythe, Reeves helped guide the Maroons to a 26‑4 record and a runner‑up finish in the 2023 Virginia High School League Class 1 State Championship Tournament.
In his second season, the team posted a 20‑8 record and advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 VHSL Class 1 State Tournament, underscoring his ability to develop talent and sustain competitive programs.
Beyond high school, Reeves served as a basketball instructor for Point Guard College camps in the summer of 2023, teaching over 150 athletes per session and further honing his instructional skills.
Education and Professional Foundations
Reeves earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Fitness Management from Ferrum College in December 2022, complemented by a minor in athletic coaching, providing him with a strong academic foundation for his administrative and coaching duties.
His appointment reflects the university's confidence in his blend of playing experience, coaching acumen and organizational skills, positioning the Argonauts for continued growth on and off the court.
