Josiah Caceres, a right‑handed pitcher from East Stroudsburg North High School, has formally pledged to continue his baseball career at Quinnipiac University. The commitment was made public on Instagram, where the prospect highlighted the combination of academic opportunity and athletic development that the university offers.
Caceres earned notice during the Minority Baseball Prospects All‑American Game, where he tossed two innings, recorded four strikeouts and issued just one walk. The performance added to a growing résumé that already included summer‑ball standout results and a reputation for poise on the mound.
The pitcher’s recruitment journey included scholarship offers from Mount Saint Mary, Sacred Heart and the University of Delaware. After weighing each program’s strengths, Caceres concluded that Quinnipiac best aligned with his long‑term goals, a decision he described as a ‘welcome home’ after a campus visit on July 30.
Why Quinnipiac?
The decision hinged on several factors: a rigorous academic major, state‑of‑the‑art baseball facilities and a coaching philosophy that emphasized player growth and team culture. Head coach John Delaney, an alumnus of the program, presented a clear vision for the future of the Bobcats, reinforcing the sense that the university was the right fit for both his athletic and scholarly aspirations.
Delaney, who previously coached at Quinnipiac before moving on to other roles, returned to lead the program and has already begun shaping a competitive roster. Under his guidance, the team finished the 2026 season with a 23‑28 record and placed five players on the All‑MAAC list, including senior pitcher Andrew Rubayo, who earned Second Team honors, and freshman Jacob Belecky, a rookie selection for the All‑Rookie team.
Caceres joins a cohort that includes fellow prospects Lucas Monica and other emerging arms, promising to add depth to the pitching staff.
