Josiah Caceres, a rising senior at East Stroudsburg North, stepped onto the field for the Minority Baseball Prospects All-American game during MLB All-Star Weekend, facing off against the nation’s top Black prospects.
The showcase, held in Atlanta, blended competition with a series of off-field events — a photoshoot, an Adidas Activation activation, a youth clinic, and a home run derby — that turned the weekend into a celebration of diversity in baseball.
A Space Where Black Voices Converge
For Caceres, the event was more than a chance to pitch; it was a rare moment of belonging. Surrounded by peers who share his background, he found camaraderie that is often elusive on predominantly white high school teams.
Competing as the starting pitcher, Caceres limited opponents to one earned run and one walk while striking out four batters, proving he could hold his own against the country’s best.
His performance caught the eye of Adidas North America president John Miller and former pro-player-turned-YouTuber Eric Sim, who attended the festivities and praised the growing pipeline of talent.
Caceres’s parents, Enrique and Christa, expressed pride in their son’s achievement, noting how the experience validated his hard work and the supportive role of Minority Baseball Prospects, the organization that organized the event.
Jordan Walker, an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals and recent home-run derby champion, used his platform to advocate for more Black children to enter the sport, echoing the event’s mission.
Young talents such as Malcom Blaqman, Joseph Webb, and Caceres themselves represent the next wave of Black representation, signaling a shift toward greater inclusion in baseball’s future.
