A Fresh Signing for the Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks announced this week that they have secured the rights to Judd Caulfield through the 2027-28 season, signing the 25-year-old right wing to a two-year, two-way contract.
Caulfield arrives after a career-high 2025-26 campaign in the American Hockey League, where he posted 17 goals, 21 assists and 38 points in 71 games for the San Diego Gulls, numbers that represent a marked increase from his previous AHL output of 38 goals and 51 assists over 204 games.
His offensive surge is complemented by a strong defensive reputation, highlighted by a plus-39 rating during his three-year stint at the University of North Dakota, where he helped the Fighting Hawks capture the NCHC championship in 2020-21 and contributed three short-handed goals in his junior year.
Internationally, Caulfield has represented the United States at multiple junior levels, earning a bronze medal at the 2019 U-18 World Championship and a gold medal with the 2017 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He also played alongside Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson during their time in the US National Team Development Program.
Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Caulfield previously spent two seasons with the Penguins’ AHL affiliate before being traded to Anaheim in a March 2023 deal that involved forward Thimo Nickl. The move marks a full-circle moment for a player who grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and now hopes to translate his collegiate success to the NHL stage.
