Rome High School has announced the appointment of Julian Barfield as its new head coach for the girls basketball program, ushering in a new chapter for the program.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
Barfield arrives after nearly two decades of experience across several Georgia high schools, where he has built winning cultures and produced players who have moved on to NCAA Division I competition. He has helped more than 50 student‑athletes earn NCAA Division I scholarships and coached two McDonald’s All‑Americans, highlighting his knack for spotting and nurturing elite talent.
During his tenure at Milton High School, the Eagles captured three region titles, reached the Elite Eight and made a Final Four appearance, underscoring his ability to translate talent into results.
His coaching portfolio also includes stints at Buford High School and Parkview High School, as well as collaborations with nationally recognized AAU programs that have sharpened his developmental approach.
Building More Than a Team
Beyond wins, Barfield emphasizes player development, discipline, accountability and a positive, competitive culture that stretches into the classroom.
He holds a master’s degree in special education with a concentration in reading from Brenau University, a background he says informs his commitment to academic excellence alongside athletic achievement.
Principal Dr. Christy Epps highlighted Barfield’s history of constructing successful programs and nurturing student‑athletes, noting that his vision aligns tightly with the school’s broader educational goals.
Barfield’s philosophy centers on hard work, accountability, discipline and a relentless pursuit of excellence, values he intends to embed in every practice, game and interaction with families and the wider community.
He looks forward to forging meaningful relationships with players, parents, faculty and local supporters, aiming to create a sustained environment where both personal growth and team success thrive.
