The Gastineau Channel Little League Majors Baseball All-Stars clinched the 2026 Alaska District 2 Championship on Tuesday, July 28, defeating Ketchikan Little League 9-1 at Dudley Field in Juneau.
Manager Ron Winkelman praised the squad’s resilience, highlighting their ability to rally after an early setback and to execute a series of aggressive baserunning moves that turned the tide.
Ketchikan struck first, scoring in the bottom of the first inning, but Juneau answered in the fifth with a flurry of hits and stolen bases that put them ahead. The breakthrough came in the sixth when Landon Love smashed a three‑RBI triple, extending the lead to 6‑1.
Reliever Cooper Duval sealed the victory in the bottom of the sixth, preserving the margin and allowing the team to celebrate a hard‑earned win.
Looking ahead to the state stage
The All-Stars will now meet Anchorage’s Abbott-O-Rabbitt Little League in a best‑of‑three state championship series beginning August 1, a matchup that promises another test of skill and stamina.
Should they prevail, the champions will travel to the Regional tournament in San Bernardino, California, from August 8‑14, representing Alaska on a national stage.
