Under his guidance the Rangers captured at least 40 wins in each of his three full seasons, a feat that earned him the Matt Leyden Trophy as coach of the year in 2024‑25.
His success in Ontario was preceded by stints in Finland’s SM‑Liiga with KooKoo Kouvola and Turku TPS, where he captured the Kalevi Numminen Trophy as coach of the year in 2019‑20 and guided TPS to a second‑place finish in the league playoffs the following season. Internationally, Ahokas has tasted gold at the 2016 IIHF Under‑18 World Championship and again in 2019, cementing his reputation on the world stage.
