Illinois State University announced today that Justin Jennings will join the Redbirds' men's basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach. The appointment was confirmed by head coach Ryan Pedon, who emphasized Jennings' extensive playing and coaching background.
Jennings arrives after a distinguished tenure that includes three seasons at Edinboro University, where he guided the Fighting Scots to consecutive double‑digit win seasons and earned the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year honor. His career also features stints at Drexel University, the United States Military Academy, and a preparatory school, during which his teams compiled an 81‑28 record.
A former player at Penn State Behrend under Hall of Fame coach Dave Niland, Jennings ranked third in school history for career assists and cultivated a deep understanding of the game. He has coached five all‑conference honorees and helped Drexel break a 25‑year NCAA Tournament drought.
A Strategic Addition for the Redbirds
The Redbirds hope Jennings' offensive expertise and player‑development focus will accelerate their own growth. Pedon noted that Jennings' diverse experience across Division I, II and III programs equips him to mentor the current roster and shape a competitive future.
With Jennings on board, Illinois State aims to translate his championship pedigree into on‑court success, positioning the Redbirds for a strong showing in the upcoming season.
