A New Chapter for the Hoosiers
Indiana University announced the signing of guard Justin Monden from Maryland Eastern Shore, a move confirmed on May 12 that secures the rising senior for a single final season of eligibility.
The addition comes as the Hoosiers continue to reshape their roster following a series of high‑profile transfers, including Jaeden Mustaf, Darren Harris, Aiden Sherrell, Samet Yigitoglu, Cleo Hill, Jr., and the recent commitments of Markus Burton and Bryce Lindsay.
A Journey Across Campuses
Monden’s collegiate path has taken him from Heritage High School in North Carolina to Word of God Christian Academy, then to Georgia Southwestern State, where he posted a breakout sophomore campaign, before returning to the Division I level at Maryland Eastern Shore.
At Georgia Southwestern State he averaged 12.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, shooting 41.3 percent from the floor, 30 percent from three‑point range and 79.5 percent from the free‑throw line, while reaching double figures on 14 occasions and scoring 20‑plus in four games.
His overall career numbers sit at 7.2 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, with a career‑high 20‑point outing coming during his sophomore year.
What the Coaching Staff Expects
Coach Darian DeVries expressed confidence that Monden’s blend of shooting accuracy and veteran poise will add depth to the backcourt, noting that the guard’s experience at the Division I level, where he posted 6.0 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in his lone season, should translate into immediate contributions.
The move also underscores the program’s strategy of leveraging transfers who have already proven they can thrive in competitive environments, a tactic that has defined the recent influx of talent into Bloomington.
With the new academic year approaching, the Hoosiers look to integrate Monden into a dynamic lineup that includes both freshmen and seasoned veterans, aiming to contend for conference honors.
