The Kansas State University baseball program celebrated a dual milestone this season as the Wildcats were honored with the Team Academic Excellence Award by the American Baseball Coaches Association for the 2025‑26 academic year. The recognition highlights the team's ability to blend competitive success with scholarly achievement, a combination that has become a defining characteristic of the program.
This marks the third time the Wildcats have received the award, having previously been honored in 2016‑17 and again in 2025‑26. The repeated distinction reflects a sustained culture of academic responsibility that coaches and players have cultivated over multiple seasons.
Record‑Breaking Scholarship
During the spring semester the squad posted a record‑breaking cumulative GPA of 3.31, the highest ever recorded by the program. That academic performance was complemented by a 30‑27 overall record on the field, securing the fourth consecutive campaign with at least 30 victories and tying the longest stretch of 30‑win seasons in school history.
Head coach Pete Hughes, now in his tenth year at the helm, guided the team through a demanding schedule while maintaining the academic standards that have become a hallmark of the program. His leadership has been instrumental in preserving the streak of 30‑win seasons and in fostering an environment where athletic and academic goals are pursued in tandem.
The Wildcats were one of nine Big 12 institutions to earn the award, joining a select group of schools that excel both on the diamond and in the classroom. The conference's emphasis on holistic development has created a competitive landscape where academic honors are as prized as championship titles.
