The recruitment journey
Kaden Buchanan, a 6‑foot‑4, 330‑pound offensive lineman from Friendship Christian in Tennessee, announced his college commitment in a live stream on May 25, choosing Virginia Tech over Kentucky and NC State.
The decision capped a recruitment that had seen the prospect trim a long list of suitors to three finalists, a process that highlighted his status as the No. 21 player in the state for the 2027 class according to the 247Sports Composite.
A decisive moment
Ranked nationally as the No. 28 interior offensive lineman, Buchanan brings a rare blend of size and mobility that has drawn interest from a host of Power Five programs, including Indiana, Colorado, North Carolina, Cincinnati and Maryland.
High school impact
At Friendship Christian, he has anchored the front five for three seasons, helping the team post 4,047 yards of offense last year, including 2,233 rushing yards, while the squad finished 9‑3 and reached the TSSAA Division II‑A state quarterfinals.
Coach George Robinson, who has worked closely with Buchanan, praised the lineman’s work ethic and predicted that his addition will strengthen the Hokies’ interior line.
Buchanan’s tenure at Friendship Christian includes a state championship appearance in 2023, a season in which the school went 27‑10 overall, underscoring his impact beyond individual statistics.
The commitment marks a significant recruiting win for Virginia Tech, which will look to translate his physical presence into on‑field dominance in the coming seasons.
