A new chapter for Danville basketball
Kaleb Oldham, a 32‑year‑old former assistant coach at Fishers, was officially appointed head coach of the Danville boys basketball team on Monday night, marking the start of a new era for a program that has long been a staple of Indiana high school basketball.
Oldham’s ascent comes after six years on the Fishers staff, where he helped the program capture a Class 4A state championship in 2023‑24 and compile an 83‑3 record over three seasons. His experience under former coach Garrett Winegar, who recently moved to Iowa United Prep, gave him a front‑row view of a culture built on relentless winning.
In his introductory remarks, Oldham expressed enthusiasm for leading a team with a storied past, noting the excitement of stepping into his first head‑coaching role. He took the opportunity to thank his wife, Victoria, principal Matt Clodfelter, athletic director Aimee Harvey, and the sectional committee for their unwavering support.
The Danville community is eager to see how Oldham will blend his championship experience with the school’s rich basketball heritage. Under longtime coach Brian Barber, the Warriors amassed 426 victories in 26 seasons, and three of the team’s top five scorers are expected to return, providing a solid foundation for the upcoming campaign.
Oldham’s hiring was welcomed by the school board and praised by former colleagues, including Winegar, who described him as destined for greater responsibilities. The new coach also took the chance to acknowledge his former players at Fishers, whose contributions he called "completely life changing" in shaping his coaching philosophy.
