Kanda Korver Launches Hawaii’s First Collegiate Flag Football Program

A veteran coach blends mental training and community outreach to build a premier women’s flag football team at Hawaii Pacific University

A Path Toward Olympic Recognition

Kanda Korver, a seasoned coach with a varied background, has been named the inaugural head coach of Hawaii Pacific University’s women’s flag football team.

The new program marks a milestone for the university, making it the first college in Hawaii to sponsor flag football and offering local female athletes a chance to compete close to home.

Flag football is on track to become an NCAA championship sport and will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, a timeline that Korver says fuels her ambition to elevate the program to a national level.

Beyond on‑field strategy, Korver brings a strong emphasis on mental conditioning, drawing on her role as director of operations at Keiki Coders and the founder of Kore Vibration, an organization dedicated to athlete psychology.

She also draws on her experience as an assistant with the Kamehameha Kapalama flag program, hoping the partnership will create a pipeline that strengthens the sport across the islands.
