Kansas University has unveiled a new home‑and‑home basketball series with Villanova University, marking a significant addition to both programs’ non‑conference slates.
A rivalry that spans decades
The two schools have met ten times since their first encounter in 1968, with four of those showdowns occurring in the NCAA Tournament. In each of those tournament meetings, the eventual champion emerged victorious, underscoring the high stakes of the matchup.
The inaugural game of the series is set for November 27, 2026, at Allen Fieldhouse, while the rematch will take place in November 2027 at Villanova’s Finneran Pavilion. Both contests will be part of a schedule that also includes battles against Missouri, UConn, Kentucky and Ohio State, promising a rigorous test before Big 12 play begins.
Kansas head coach Bill Self emphasized that these games are designed to sharpen the team’s depth and intensity, noting that the opponents represent some of the nation’s elite programs. ‘These matchups will prepare us for the grind of conference play and excite our fans,’ Self said.
Looking ahead
The full non‑conference schedule for the 2026‑27 season is slated for release in June, at which point details of travel dates, broadcast information and ticket sales will become available. Fans can look forward to a demanding road map that reflects Kansas’ commitment to competing at the highest level each year.
