Kansas baseball is set to welcome a surge of fans to Hoglund Ballpark for the NCAA regional, with capacity expanding from roughly 2,500 to about 4,000 seats. The upgrade is part of a broader effort to elevate the fan experience and give the Jayhawks a distinct home‑field advantage.
Enhanced Amenities and Fan Zones
A new standing‑room‑only area has been carved out where the visiting bullpen once stood, while a dedicated fan zone called ‘The Backyard’ now occupies the left‑field corner. Additional restrooms and concession stands have been added to keep the crowd comfortable throughout the games.
Junior pitcher Tyson LeBlanc said the team feels the fans and the program deserve the extra attention, and Dominic Voegele echoed the excitement, especially about the atmosphere that the student section will bring.
Coach’s Praise and Athletic Director’s Vision
Coach Dan Fitzgerald praised the quick work on the stadium, noting that the new look reflects a commitment to showcasing the venue’s potential. Travis Goff, Kansas’ director of athletics, predicts this regional could become one of the best in the nation and may even rival any sporting event ever held at KU.
Looking Forward
While some of the temporary improvements are expected to become permanent, the university plans to use the data gathered this weekend to guide further upgrades, including a long‑awaited indoor facility for the baseball program. Jordan Guskey, a reporter covering the team, highlighted how the experience could shape the future of KU baseball.
