Kansas Baseball Secures No. 15 Seed and Home Regional
Kansas baseball entered the NCAA tournament picture as the No. 15 national seed, earning the right to host a regional at its historic Hoglund Ballpark in Lawrence.
The announcement was met with a mix of astonishment and optimism, especially from head coach Dan Fitzgerald, who admitted he never imagined his team would be placed that low despite a dominant Big 12 campaign.
Athletics director Travis Goff had already overseen construction upgrades at the ballpark before the NCAA officially confirmed Kansas as a regional host, describing the move as a ‘leap of faith’ driven by the program’s recent triumphs.
The regional field features powerhouses such as Arkansas and Missouri State, while the Jayhawks will open play on Friday at 12 p.m. Central Time against Northeastern, the 4‑seed from the Northeast Conference.
Junior pitchers Tyson LeBlanc and Dominic Voegele expressed gratitude for the chance to compete on home soil, noting that the combination of fan support and familiar surroundings could give the team a distinct edge.
