Kansas basketball’s latest campaign concluded with a double disappointment: a semifinal loss in the Big 12 Conference tournament followed by an early exit in the NCAA Tournament’s round of 32. The setbacks were compounded by the inability of star freshman guard Darryn Peterson to stay fully healthy throughout the schedule.
Adding to the mix, the Jayhawks are set to welcome a highly touted class of newcomers. Freshman guard Tyran Stokes, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2026 class according to 247Sports, is expected to shoulder a primary ball‑handling role next season. He will be joined by fellow freshman Taylen Kinney, the No. 20 overall recruit, who brings additional backcourt depth.
Among the returning pieces, sophomores Kohl Rosario and Paul Mbiya remain key contributors. Mbiya’s prospects for a starting spot have been amplified by the injury recovery of Christian Reeves, opening a pathway for the young forward to increase his minutes.
Front‑court stability could also be bolstered by the possible arrival of Serbian big man Mihailo Mušikić. While his eligibility is still under review, his potential addition would alleviate pressure on Mbiya and strengthen Kansas’ interior game.
