The University of Kansas will host two distinct Late Night in the Phog showcases this fall, giving both the men’s and women’s basketball programs a dedicated stage to open the season.
A Fresh Format for a Classic Tradition
The men’s squad is slated to face Pittsburg State on October 16, while the women’s team will take on Washburn on October 29, both contests taking place inside the historic Allen Fieldhouse.
Coach Bill Self explained that the revised schedule is intended to streamline practice time while delivering a more engaging experience for supporters, blending entertainment with substantive basketball activities.
Self emphasized that the core elements that have defined Late Night in the Phog — team introductions, player meet‑and‑greets and direct fan interaction — will remain intact, ensuring the event’s heritage endures.
Historically, the gathering has struggled with attendance and limited resources, but the new structure aims to reverse that trend by offering a richer program that appeals to a broader audience.
Looking Ahead to 2026‑27
The 2026‑27 rosters will still be evaluated under the same fan‑centric philosophy, with Self confident that the blend of excitement and substance will keep the crowd energized.
