EA Sports' College Football 27 has released its latest ratings, and the Kansas Jayhawks find themselves at the bottom of the Big 12 with a 77 overall score. The number is more than a statistic; it encapsulates a season that delivered just seven wins over the past two years and left the program searching for answers.
A Rating That Stands Out
Both the offensive and defensive components of the Jayhawks’ rating sit at 77, but the disparity within each side tells a clearer story. The defense, in particular, is thin on high‑rated talent, with only linebacker Trey Lethan and defensive tackle Tre'von McAlpine breaking the 80‑point barrier.
Among the offensive skill positions, four of the five highest‑rated players are skill position athletes, yet the quarterback room remains a concern. Cole Ballard, the presumed starter, posts a 70 overall rating, the lowest among his peers, while Isaiah Marshall and Chase Jenkins sit at 74.
The offseason has not softened the blow. Leroy Harris III, who led the team with 4.5 sacks last year, opted out of the upcoming game, and the departure of several key contributors has left a void that the coaching staff must fill quickly.
Head coach Lance Leipold, who has guided the program through a stretch of seven consecutive losses, now faces mounting pressure. The administration has hinted that continued underperformance could trigger a change at the helm.
Looking Ahead to 2026
If the Jayhawks hope to climb the rankings next season, they will need to rebuild a defense that lacks depth and develop a quarterback who can elevate the offense. Recruiting and player development will be pivotal, and the early signs suggest the road ahead will be anything but easy.
