Kansas State University has announced that it will host Sam Houston State University at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on September 15, 2029, in what will be the first-ever football matchup between the two programs.
A New Chapter for the Wildcats
The game forms part of a carefully curated non‑conference schedule that also includes a September 8, 2029 road test at Washington State. Kansas State has committed to guaranteeing at least one non‑conference opponent each season through 2032, reinforcing its national exposure.
Sam Houston State, a recent entrant to the Football Bowl Subdivision, has quickly made its mark. Under head coach Willie Fritz, the Bearkats captured the FCS national championship in the pandemic‑shortened 2021 season and have since built a competitive FBS roster.
The coaching staff includes veteran assistant Phil Longo, whose experience on both sides of the ball adds depth to the preparation for the upcoming clash.
Looking Ahead
Beyond the 2029 slate, Kansas State’s schedule through 2032 reflects a strategic approach to balancing regional rivalries with marquee road trips, ensuring consistent television appeal and recruiting benefits.
