The Kansas State Wildcats reported to the Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan on Wednesday, marking the first day of training camp under head coach Collin Klein.
A New Era of Intensity
Klein, a former quarterback who led the Wildcats to a Big 12 championship as a player and later as an offensive coordinator, has infused the first full‑scale practices with a level of physicality that coaches say mirrors game‑day intensity.
Senior quarterback Avery Johnson, who has amassed 5,576 yards and 48 touchdowns in his K‑State career, enters his final season without a conference title or playoff appearance, adding a personal stake to the team's ambitions.
The departure of Jayce Brown leaves a void at wide receiver, but returning players Jaron Tibbs and Sterling Lockett, along with transfers Josh Manning and Izaiah Williams, are expected to share the load.
On the defensive side, a wave of transfers — including Wendell Gregory, Elijah Hill, Jacobi Oliphant, Tanner Morley and Rodney Fields — are slated to contribute immediately, giving Klein depth on both sides of the ball.
Klein has spoken openly about building a developmental program that blends high‑school recruits with transfer talent, aiming for sustained success beyond a single season.
So far, Klein remains undefeated as the Wildcats’ head coach, and the low‑stress environment of August practices offers a preview of the momentum he hopes to carry into the fall.
