The Kansas girls soccer quarterfinal turned into a dramatic showdown as Kapaun Mt. Carmel edged Bishop Carroll 5-3, halting the Crusaders' two-year reign as state champions and sending the team to the Class 5A semifinals.
Kapaun's coach Anthony Cantele credited the team's meticulous set-piece preparation, noting that three of the Crusaders' first-half goals came from carefully rehearsed routines that caught Bishop Carroll off guard.
