A Legacy Etched in Goals
On October 16 and 18, 2026, the Quaker Valley community will gather to celebrate Kara Vezza-Herring’s induction into the Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing a career that redefined girls’ soccer in the region. As the all‑time leading scorer with 116 goals and 166 points, her name has become synonymous with excellence on the field.
During her tenure from 2000 to 2003, Vezza-Herring earned four‑time all‑section honors and three‑time all‑WPIAL selections, while also achieving regional All‑American status in 2003 and twice earning all‑state accolades. The Quakers captured four section championships, finished as state runners‑up in 2001, and claimed WPIAL runner‑up titles in 2002 and 2003, a testament to the program’s historic strength.
Family Foundations
The Vezza story is rooted in a multigenerational love of soccer. Her parents, Dominic Vezza and Patty Vezza, both served as coaches, while siblings Angel Vezza, Rochele Vezza, and Tessie Vezza donned the Quakers’ colors alongside her. Angel’s own legacy includes a WPIAL all‑star selection on the 1991 championship team, further cementing the family’s imprint on the school’s athletic heritage.
After college, Vezza-Herring played four years at Georgia State University and honed her skills with the Beadling Soccer Club and the PA West Olympic Development Program. Primarily a striker, she also excelled as a center midfielder and right winger, showcasing a versatility that enriched every team she joined.
Looking Ahead
Now residing in Edgeworth with her husband Ben Herring — a Quaker Valley Hockey Hall of Fame inductee — Vezza-Herring balances family life with community involvement. Her three sons, Isaiah, Luca, and Dominico, continue the soccer tradition, with Luca starring for the Quaker Valley Middle School team and Dominico affectionately nicknamed “mini‑Messi.” The next generation watches, learns, and dreams of following in the footsteps of a pioneer whose legacy is as enduring as the goals she once scored.
