Karl Hobbs Joins Duquesne Staff
Karl Hobbs, a native of Roxbury, Massachusetts, is set to begin a new chapter in his storied basketball career as an assistant coach at Duquesne University.
With nearly four decades of coaching experience, Hobbs brings a résumé that includes stints as associate head coach at Georgia Tech and Rutgers, where he guided the Scarlet Knights to back‑to‑back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022.
His earlier tenure at George Washington University saw him capture two Atlantic 10 championships, post a perfect 16‑0 conference record in 2005‑06, and earn Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year honors, a season that culminated in a 27‑3 record and a No. 12 national ranking.
At Connecticut, Hobbs served as an assistant during the 2013‑14 campaign that produced the Huskies’ most recent national championship, and his work with players extended to the professional ranks, having coached ten NBA athletes, among them ten‑time All‑Star Ray Allen.
Strategic Implications for Duquesne
The addition of Hobbs is expected to sharpen Duquesne’s defensive schemes, an area the administration has identified as critical for future success. His proven ability to develop talent could accelerate the growth of current roster members and attract recruits seeking elite coaching.
A Legacy of Development
Throughout his career, Hobbs has been credited with transforming programs, turning under‑recruited teams into postseason contenders. His emphasis on discipline, work ethic, and player empowerment has left a measurable imprint on every institution he has served.
