A Homecoming for Kasey Ulin
Kasey Ulin, a Forks High School graduate and former Port Angeles coach, has been approved by the Quillayute Valley School Board to lead the Spartans boys basketball team. His return marks a full‑circle moment for a young coach who once played his way into the state spotlight.
Ulin’s playing career was nothing short of spectacular. He once topped the state’s scoring charts and guided his high school squad to the Class 2A tournament. After turning professional, he spent seven years competing in Europe — Germany, Austria, Macedonia and Luxembourg — before turning his focus back to coaching.
During his professional stint abroad, Ulin earned the Pat Fitterer Positive Coach Contributor Award and led Port Angeles to a memorable state‑tournament run. Yet his most recent year was spent at home, coaching his own children’s teams and prioritizing family life.
Now, with a senior‑heavy roster at his disposal, Ulin is eager to translate his playing and coaching experience into wins for the Spartans. He highlighted the unwavering support of the Forks community as a key factor in his decision to return.
“I’m excited to come back and coach a senior‑led team,” Ulin said. “The community’s backing means everything, and I’m grateful for the chance to impact the lives of these young athletes.”
