A Historic Win at Fox Cities Stadium
The Kaukauna Galloping Ghosts clinched the WIAA Division 1 baseball championship on Saturday, outscoring Madison Memorial 11‑5 at Fox Cities Stadium. The victory represents the team’s first state title in more than seven decades, a milestone that has resonated throughout the community.
Early in the game the Ghosts found themselves trailing 4‑1, but a five‑run third inning turned the tide. The rally ignited a surge of momentum that carried the team through the remainder of the contest.
Kaukauna added three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth, extending the lead and securing an 11‑5 final score. The offensive outburst was complemented by solid pitching that kept Madison Memorial at bay.
The championship marks the fourth appearance of the Ghosts in the state tournament and their first since 1954. Their previous tournament runs occurred over a four‑year span from 1951 to 1954, with the lone title coming in 1953.
Sectional play had already set the stage for the final, with victories over Kimberly and Bay Port paving the way. Earlier post‑season wins included a 4‑1 triumph over River Falls and a 7‑1 victory against Nicolet.
Looking Ahead
With the championship trophy in hand, the Ghosts now turn their focus to the upcoming season. Players and coaches alike expressed optimism about building on this success, aiming to sustain the program’s upward trajectory and keep the community engaged.
