Former New Mexico State Recruiting Coordinator Brings Proven Development Skills to University of Indianapolis

A Strategic Addition to the Coaching Roster

The University of Indianapolis announced this week that Kayla Tucker will step into an assistant coaching role for the upcoming 2026‑27 women's basketball season, bringing a blend of recruiting savvy and player development expertise to the program.

Tucker spent the most recent 2025‑26 campaign as the Aggies' Recruiting Coordinator at New Mexico State, where she helped shape the team's talent pipeline and contributed to a competitive roster in the Western Athletic Conference.

Prior to that, she served three seasons as an assistant coach at Southern Nazarene University, a program that captured three Great American Conference tournament titles during her tenure and saw several players earn All‑Conference honors, including a Defensive Player of the Year and a Division II All‑American.

Her coaching journey began as a graduate assistant at Texas Tech University, where she also earned a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration in 2022. She completed her undergraduate studies at Alabama State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 2016 while starring on the women's basketball team for three seasons.

During her collegiate playing days at Alabama State, Tucker was part of squads that secured two conference tournament championships and earned multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, experiences that have informed her approach to mentorship and on‑court strategy.
