Butkus Award Watch List Highlights
The 42nd edition of the Butkus Award continues to spotlight the nation’s most dynamic collegiate linebackers, and this year’s preseason watch list includes a standout from the University of Mississippi.
Keaton Thomas, a sophomore who arrived in Oxford after a two‑year stint at Baylor, has been placed on that prestigious list, underscoring the expectations placed on his defensive skill set.
From Baylor to Ole Miss
During his tenure with the Bears, Thomas logged 217 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions and a pair of defensive touchdowns, numbers that helped him earn earlier nods to both the Butkus and Bronko Nagurski watch lists.
His performance also secured spots on the On3 and Phil Steele preseason All‑America teams, as well as an all‑SEC second‑team selection, further cementing his reputation as a top‑tier defender.
Season Opener in Nashville
The Rebels will open the 2026 campaign on September 6 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, facing Louisville in a matchup that promises to showcase Thomas’s abilities on a national stage.
Ole Miss comes into the season riding the momentum of a recent College Football Playoff semifinal appearance, and the coaching staff hopes Thomas’s presence will help sustain that competitive edge.
