Keefe Tech Advances After 8-5 Victory Over Greenfield in MIAA Playoffs

A late surge by the Green Wave falls short as the technical school moves on to the state quarterfinals

Playoff Drama Unfolds

In a tightly contested MIAA Division 5 baseball showdown, Keefe Technical High School edged out Greenfield High School by an 8-5 margin, advancing to the state quarterfinals.

The early innings set the tone when Greenfield’s starter Arthur Fitzpatrick issued three walks, allowing Keefe Tech to strike first. Will DeVeau opened the third inning with a single, stole second and third, and later scored, while the technical school piled on four runs in that frame.

Greenfield answered with a rally in the seventh, plating two runs, but a pair of unearned runs in the sixth, sparked by infield miscues, stretched the lead beyond reach.

Coach Tom Suchanek, reflecting on the loss, acknowledged the early mistakes but praised his team’s fight and the potential for future growth, noting that seniors Arthur Fitzpatrick, Luca Siano and Malik Moore had played their final games for Greenfield.

The victory also marked a milestone for Keefe Tech, which will now meet fourth‑seeded Drury in the quarterfinals, while Greenfield finished the season with a 16‑6 record and a Western Mass. Class C championship, their first sectional title in 13 years.

Looking Ahead

With a blend of youthful talent and seasoned seniors, both programs look to build on this experience as they turn their attention to the next chapter of the high school baseball season.
