Keegan McQueen has stepped into a new role as the head coach of the Oak Mountain High School girls soccer program, a move that follows his recent tenure leading the boys team for a single season.
McQueen’s journey to the sidelines began long before the clipboard; as a student at Oak Mountain he captained the Eagles to back‑to‑back state championship game appearances in 2013 and 2014, earning All‑State, All‑Metro and All‑County honors along the way.
During his first year as an assistant with the girls program, he helped guide the squad to a historic season that featured just two defeats and a run to the state championship match, a feat that has generated considerable excitement among players and alumni.
A New Era for Oak Mountain Soccer
The reshuffling of coaching responsibilities also saw Wes Patridge elevated to head coach of the boys side, taking over from McQueen, while longtime girls coach Chris Blight retired and program assistant Landon Gaskins moved on, marking a period of transition for the school’s soccer departments.
These adjustments are part of a broader realignment within the Oak Mountain soccer ecosystem, a shift that reflects both the ambitions of the players and the strategic direction of the Shelby County Schools Board of Education, which oversees the program’s development across the region.
