A Strategic Move for the Lobos
Keiara Curtis, a 5‑foot‑8 guard from Seattle, is set to wear the Lobos' colors after completing a transfer from the University of Hawaii, where she averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in conference play during her freshman campaign.
The move was driven by a strong impression of the University of New Mexico's facilities, especially the iconic arena known as The Pit, and a coaching staff that caught her attention, particularly head coach Amy Eagan, who had previously faced Curtis on the court.
Eagan, impressed by Curtis's development, has slotted her into a Princeton‑inspired offensive system that emphasizes spacing, quick releases and disciplined defense, a scheme that highlights Curtis's shooting range and agility.
Now preparing for her first season in the Mountain West Conference, Curtis looks forward to battling familiar opponents from her former school, Hawaii, while aiming to contribute immediately to a Lobos squad that is eyeing a deep run in the league.
A New Chapter for UNM Women's Basketball
With a blend of experienced leadership and fresh talent, the Lobos hope to translate their offseason additions into a competitive edge, leveraging Curtis's defensive instincts and perimeter shooting to reshape their play style.
