A New Chapter for Lawrence Basketball
Keishi Reed, a Lawrence High graduate and former basketball player, has ascended to the role of head coach for the Lawrence boys basketball team, replacing Jeff Molinelli. Reed’s path to the varsity sidelines began with a chance encounter that led Molinelli to offer him a JV coaching position. Over the next ten seasons, Reed immersed himself in developing young talent, gaining a reputation for patience, strategy, and player development.
In a recent interview, Reed expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting Molinelli’s leadership and mentorship as formative influences. He acknowledged the trust placed in him by Athletic Director Anthony Ammirata and Principal Dave Adams, and he is eager to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor while shaping his own coaching philosophy.
Reed inherits a squad that will require rebuilding, but he remains optimistic about the current roster’s potential. He is particularly excited about the open competition within the Colonial Valley Conference, which he believes will foster growth and resilience. The coach has made it a point to meet with as many varsity and JV coaches across the CVC as possible, seeking to blend diverse ideas into a cohesive approach.
Beyond the X’s and O’s, Reed’s vision includes fostering a culture of accountability and ambition. He plans to combine his own concepts with those of Molinelli, aiming to create a program that not only competes strongly but also develops young men of character. The excitement among players and staff is palpable as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
