Maritime College in New York has appointed Kelci Hegg as the new head coach of its women's soccer program, tapping a coach whose career spans college, high school and club competition.
Hegg arrives after two years as an assistant at Mount St. Vincent College, where she helped the Dolphins reach the Skyline Championship Game in back‑to‑back seasons and boosted shots on goal by nearly 20 percent per match.
Prior to that, she served as director of coaching for Westchester Rush, overseeing eight age‑group teams, managing the club’s annual budget and guiding player development across a broad spectrum of talent.
A culture of growth and inclusion
Her high school résumé includes five straight league titles and three sectional championship appearances at Somers High School, where her squads advanced to the New York State Class AA semifinals in 2023.
At Concordia College in Bronxville, Hegg transformed a program that had gone six years without a win into its first ever .500 season, demonstrating her ability to revitalize underperforming teams.
A Vanderbilt University alumna, Hegg was a Division I soccer player who once held the Commodores’ single‑game scoring record with five goals and later played professionally in the USL W‑League for the New York Magic from 2009 to 2014.
Beyond tactics, Hegg emphasizes creating a supportive environment where student‑athletes feel valued, challenged and empowered both on the field and in the classroom.
College athletic director Jane Smith praised Hegg’s blend of competitive experience and commitment to holistic development, stating that her leadership is expected to accelerate the program’s growth and foster an inclusive culture.
