Friends University has announced the appointment of Kellen Marshall as its new assistant coach for the men’s basketball program, a move that will shape the team’s approach for the upcoming 2026‑27 season.
A New Chapter for the Falcons
Marshall comes to Friends after a distinguished stint at Wichita State University, where he served as a player, student manager and graduate assistant from 2015 through 2021. During that period he helped the program secure three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the NIT Final Four, and was credited with developing nine athletes who went on to play in the NBA.
Head coach Nick Jones highlighted Marshall’s deep basketball foundation, relentless work ethic and passion for player development as key reasons for the hire, stating that his experience aligns perfectly with the program’s vision for growth.
Marshall expressed excitement about joining Jones’s staff, describing the head coach as one of the top young coaches in the country and emphasizing his eagerness to learn and help student‑athletes reach their full potential.
The Falcons, who have recently appeared in back‑to‑back NAIA National Tournaments, are set to open the 2026‑27 season on October 27 against Baker University, marking the first step of a new era under Marshall’s guidance.
