Kelley Steadman, the Lightning’s Girls Hockey Development Coordinator, is set to be honored by USA Hockey at its annual President’s Awards Dinner in Denver on June 5.
Recognition of a Trailblazer
Steadman’s career spans over a decade of on‑ice excellence and off‑ice advocacy. A two‑time Olympian, she captured gold with Team USA at the 2011 and 2013 IIHF Women’s World Championships and led the Carolina Lady Hurricanes to a national championship, earning the Adult Player of the Year award.
Beyond her playing pedigree, Steadman has been a catalyst for growth in the Tampa Bay region, expanding youth participation and creating pathways for girls to compete at higher levels.
The Lightning organization recently received approval to field Tier I (AAA) boys teams and Tier II (AA) girls teams under the Jr. Lightning brand beginning in the 2026‑27 season, a move that aligns with Steadman’s vision of a more inclusive hockey ecosystem.
USA Hockey’s President’s Awards Dinner celebrates individuals whose contributions have shaped the sport, and Steadman’s recognition underscores the impact of her development work across the country.
Steadman’s honor reflects not only personal achievement but also the broader progress of women’s hockey in the United States, a movement that has gained momentum through dedicated administrators and former players willing to invest in the next generation.
