A Trailblazer on and off the Ice
Kelley Steadman, a champion for girls and women’s hockey, has amassed titles across numerous leagues and international tournaments, earning recognition as USA Hockey’s Adult Player of the Year.
In her current role as the girls hockey development coordinator with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Steadman leverages her extensive playing background to expand opportunities for young female athletes in the region.
Under her guidance, the Lightning have witnessed a 36% increase in female participation, reflecting her ability to translate vision into measurable growth.
Steadman’s playing résumé includes gold medals with the U.S. Women’s National Team at the 2011 and 2013 IIHF Women’s World Championships, a 2008 Under‑18 Women’s World Championship title, a Clarkson Cup victory with the Boston Blades in 2013, a European Women’s Championship Cup win with Moscow’s Hockey Club Tornado in 2014, and an Isobel Cup with the Buffalo Beauts in 2017.
Beyond the rink, she holds a master’s degree in instructional leadership from Robert Morris University and previously served as director of women’s hockey operations there from 2014 until 2017, before returning to Mercyhurst University as an assistant coach for four seasons.
Her professional journey with the Lightning began in 2021 in a part‑time ambassador capacity, a stepping stone that led to her present coordination role, where she continues to champion grassroots development and community outreach.
Steadman’s influence extends beyond statistics; she occasionally takes to the ice herself, enjoying the game she has devoted her life to, and she remains a mentor to the next generation of players.
The Tampa area’s recent 8% growth in girls hockey mirrors the broader momentum she has helped generate, underscoring her pivotal role in shaping a more inclusive hockey landscape.
