Abramson Athletic Director Daryl Williams has named Kelly Oubre Sr. as the new head coach of the school’s boys basketball program, tapping a figure who blends a strong community ethos with a deep basketball pedigree.
Oubre Sr., who previously served as president of BeastDevelopMetal, a consulting firm that works with youth sports programs, brings a mission to cultivate character and passion among players in the New Orleans East neighborhood.
Player Outlook and Community Impact
Senior power forward Za’Ron Richardson, a returning starter, said he is eager to work under Oubre, noting the coach’s emphasis on discipline and teamwork.
The coach will inherit a squad that finished the last season with an 8‑16 record and will have to navigate a competitive District 10‑4A, where seasoned head coaches await.
