Freshman sensation Kelsi Andrews added another chapter to her burgeoning legend by helping the United States capture its third straight gold medal at the 2026 FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup.
A Freshman's Golden Run
Andrews averaged 6.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists over the competition, but her impact stretched far beyond the stat sheet. She delivered a 13‑point, 10‑rebound double‑double in the semifinal against Venezuela and chipped in three crucial points during the championship clash with Canada, a game in which the U.S. trailed early before seizing control.
The Americans bulldozed the group stage, posting victories over Argentina, Mexico and Paraguay by an average margin of 83 points, a testament to the depth and cohesion of the squad.
Andrews’ performance against Mexico highlighted her all‑around abilities, as she recorded six points, three rebounds and four assists in a 104‑51 rout.
Beyond the numbers, the win marks Andrews as the second South Carolina Gamecock to secure a gold medal this summer, following Joyce Edwards’ earlier triumph at the 2026 Women’s FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Poland.
Looking Ahead
With USA Basketball’s pipeline continuing to produce elite talent, Andrews and her peers are poised to shape the next generation of international play. Their success not only elevates the program’s profile but also signals a promising future for the sport in the United States.
