To address the shortfall, Musick brought in Dionnah Jackson‑Durrett, a coach steeped in the system of Texas veteran Vic Schaefer, to serve as defensive coordinator and reshape the Razorbacks' approach on that end of the floor.
A New Defensive Identity
Jackson‑Durrett’s reputation for a disciplined, aggressive scheme dovetails with Musick’s desire for a fast‑paced, dribble‑drive offense, creating a hybrid identity that emphasizes pressure both ways.
The coaching staff has also leaned heavily on analytics. A custom evaluation scale helped the program sift through a roster that now features 12 newcomers, including transfer guards Beautiful Waheed and Grace McCallop, who are expected to be disruptive forces on the perimeter.
Musick notes that the team possesses more length and athleticism than in the previous season, attributes that should translate into better shot‑contesting and rebounding.
Financially, the program’s resource base has expanded, giving the staff more flexibility in recruiting and player development, a factor Musick says fuels her optimism for the upcoming campaign.
The staffing shuffle also saw longtime assistant Amber Shirey depart for a head‑coaching role at Farmington High School, leaving senior guard Emily Robinson as the sole returning player from last year’s squad. Robinson has taken on a mentorship role, guiding the influx of new faces through Musick’s system.
