A New Chapter for Fordham Basketball
Fordham University announced this week that it has secured a coveted transfer in Kelvin Odih, a former top‑100 recruit who spent a single season at St. John’s before entering the portal.
Odih’s high school résumé at La Salle Academy in Providence was nothing short of spectacular, where he posted averages of 19.1 points, 11.4 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game, earning him a reputation as a versatile big man.
Although his freshman year with the Red Storm was marred by injuries and a deep rotation, he appeared in only ten games and managed a modest 1.5 points per contest, a far cry from the expectations set by his early accolades.
Choosing to remain in New York, Odih cited the opportunity to play immediately at Fordham as a decisive factor, hoping to revive a program that has not seen a four‑star recruit since 2008.
Coach Nick Light of Rhode Island Elite, who has worked with Odih on the AAU circuit, believes the newcomer’s defensive instincts and rebounding prowess will translate into wins from day one.
The Rams’ athletic director framed the signing as more than a roster upgrade; it is a statement that the university is intent on restoring its historic competitiveness in the Atlantic 10 and, potentially, securing a March Madness berth for the first time since 1992.
