Kendrick Perkins, the former NBA champion known for his tenure with the Boston Celtics, has accepted a dual role that will see him lead Jackson State’s men’s basketball program as general manager while continuing his duties as an analyst on ESPN.
Perkins said he plans to weave his broadcasting experience into the university’s media curriculum, creating a pipeline that connects the Tigers’ on‑court action with real‑world sports journalism. His partnership with ESPN, where he has worked since 2019, will also provide the program with a steady stream of broadcast exposure.
The front office will be shaped by new head coach Trey Johnson and athletic director Ashley Robinson, who together bring fresh energy to a Tigers squad that finished the previous season 12‑21 and has not appeared in the NCAA Tournament since 2007.
