Kennedy Quinn, a senior at Abingdon-Avon High School, has pledged to continue her basketball career at DePaul University at the NCAA Division-I level. The announcement came via social media, where she expressed enthusiasm about joining the university’s academic and athletic community.
During her junior year she posted averages of 22.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.1 steals, guiding the Tornadoes to a 26-6 record and a Class 1A sectional semifinal berth. Her performances earned her Journal Star Small-School All-Area honors, a first-team all-state selection by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and Illinois Media, and a place on the all-Lincoln Trail Conference first team.
Quinn also stands as A-Town's all-time leading scorer with 1,940 points in three seasons and holds a school record for a single-game performance with 41 points. Her decision follows offers from Morehead State, Oakland, North Alabama and Western Illinois, with the DePaul offer arriving on June 19.
DePaul’s recent campaign ended 8-24 overall and 5-15 in Big East play, a season that concluded with a first-round loss to Providence in the conference tournament. The program is entering a transitional phase after longtime head coach Doug Bruno retired in March after 39 seasons that produced 786 wins and 25 NCAA tournament appearances.
Jill Pizzotti, who had served on Bruno’s staff for 14 years, now begins her first year as head coach, taking over a program eager to rebuild around new talent.
A New Era for DePaul Women’s Basketball
The commitment underscores the growing appeal of DePaul’s women’s basketball program and highlights the impact of local talent on national collegiate recruiting landscapes.
