Four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II announced his commitment to the University of Alabama on May 11, selecting the Crimson Tide over Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
The pledge came as both Alabama and Georgia sit near the top of the national recruiting rankings, with Alabama positioned at No. 35 and Georgia at No. 31 in the 2027 class rankings.
Recruiting Context
Alabama’s class already features five-star quarterback Elijah Haven and now includes six total commitments, while Georgia’s haul includes five-star running back Kemon Spell and tight end Jaxon Dollar, also totaling six pledges.
Recent history adds intrigue: Georgia lost two blue-chip cornerbacks in May, with Donte Wright flipping to Miami and Jerry Outhouse committing to UCLA, underscoring the volatility of the market.
Coaches and analysts note that the Bulldogs traditionally secure the bulk of their class during the June and July periods, making Simon II’s early decision a notable early signal.
The commitment also highlights the growing competition between the SEC powerhouses, as both programs vie for the same elite talent pool from the class of 2027.
Simon II, a standout at Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee, holds the No. 133 overall ranking and is the seventh-best linebacker nationally, a testament to his high school pedigree.
His decision is expected to influence recruiting strategies and could sway other top prospects as the cycle progresses.
