A Family Legacy Meets a New Era
Kenneth Simon II, a highly touted linebacker prospect in the 2027 class, announced on Tuesday that he is no longer committed to the University of Alabama and will instead join the Tennessee Volunteers.
His father, Kevin Simon, a former Tennessee player and current NFL scout, said the opportunity to wear orange for his hometown team in the SEC was an offer he could not pass up, especially as the decision coincided with his birthday.
Ranked as the No. 6 prospect in Tennessee and No. 10 nationally among linebackers by the 247Sports Composite, Simon had previously counted Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Notre Dame, Michigan, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt among his suitors.
Welcoming a Homegrown Talent
Coach Josh Heupel, now in his second season leading the Volunteers, expressed enthusiasm about the addition, noting that Simon’s blend of size, speed and football IQ fits the program’s evolving defensive scheme.
The commitment marks a rare homecoming for a player of Simon’s caliber, reinforcing Tennessee’s recruiting momentum and underscoring the impact of familial connections in high‑school decisions.
Analysts expect the Volunteers to benefit from Simon’s presence on the field and in the locker room, as his familiarity with the state’s culture could translate into a stronger fan base and heightened recruiting visibility.
